SciTE overview
SciTE is an extendable development environment for producing source code and markup-language files. Your preferred tools can be integrated into SciTE. It is customized through editing text files containing a list of properties in order to allow control with flexibility.
What's new in version 5.6.4
- This version increases security by requiring an extra step to allow scripts in project directories. The allow.local.script property enables executing scripts and is off by default.

1. install macports website: http://www.macports.org
2. open terminal
3. command: sudo port selfupdate
4. command: sudo port install scite
5. open X11
6. add SciTE as program with command scite

Dear Developer: I'm _really_ interested in this program but I'm not willing to pay $41.99 to find out if I like it. Can you please provide a limited version that can be downloaded from your web site? It could be crippled by a time limit or by not saving files. This should be easy for you to do and gets around the Mac App Store idiocy.

There is a free version for all other operating systems with exception Mac OS X… 41$ ? No deal… Nobody needs that … there are enough beautiful apps which includes the scintilla lib. useless!

Wow, this along with Notepad++ were my preferred free editors before my move to OS X. SciTE was wonderfully customisable, fast and nimble. And the developer was always helpful and communicative.
I wish Neil good luck, though with competition of the likes of Sublime Text 2, Textmate 2 and the others, SciTE needs to bring something more than the free version did to the table...
